P2 Architectural Concepts-1155/02 (P2 8:45-10:05 AM) Assignments

Instructor
Chad Lawson
Term
Semester 1 2020
Description
Much of Architecture is looking at a space, looking at that space, and figuring out the best way to make use of that space. We will be studying 2D and 3D shapes, shadow, scale, some 3D modeling, and even get into working with and making our own floor plans and elevations. This class will run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, during 2nd period (P2 8:45-10:05 AM). During this time I will be available to assist you via Google Meet from a link that can be found by accessing this Google Classroom.

Sketchup: Complex Boolean Operations in Google Classroom

Sketchup: Complex Boolean Operations

LT: I can define the term boolean operation
SC: I will visually demonstrate my understanding of a boolean operation by performing different operations on objects in a SketchUp project file.

First off...what is a boolean? Well, I'm glad that you asked! A boolean operation occurs when you take two 3 dimensional objects, and make them run through each other. From there, you can subtract or combine the two objects to make a new single object. To visually demonstrate this, we are going to combine and cut-out portions of objects from each other in Sketchup!

If you'd like some additional help, I have included a |SketchUp 2015 Lessons: Cutouts & Intersecting Faces| video. Please note, that this is from the 2015 version of SketchUp, so the tools show up differently, but the idea is the same.

1. Attend class, or watch the included video
2. log into sketchup
3. During class-time for Monday and Tuesday, create at least 6 (work on 3 per day) complex boolean shapes.
4. attach your sketchup file to this assignment and turn it in.

please complete this form to learn about expectations and guidelines to help you ease back into returning to school.

Due:

Week 4 Quick Sketches in Google Classroom

Week 4 Quick Sketches

LT: I can create a rendering of a 3D object on a 2D plane
SC: I will demonstrate this by sketching various objects using basic geometric forms, perspective, and shading

What you will need:
-A sheet of paper
-A pen or pencil
-a hard drawing surface (this can be a table, book, clipboard, etc. etc.)

Instructions: Find your subject (what you are going to draw) and quickly sketch it. Try to add perspective, depth, and shading to communicate that the object looks like it is in 3D. You will submit at least 8 total quick sketches for this week (2 on Monday, 2 on Tuesday, 2 on Thursday, 2 on Friday) to the shared Jamboard.

Watch the video on edpuzzle and answer the questions.

Due:

Quick Question in Google Classroom

Quick Question

Use this survey to let me know what you would like to do in this class. My goal is to help you grow in your knowledge of architecture, and help you find a career that might interest you in this field, and there are several ways that we can go about doing that, but I need your input first.

Answering this survey will get you 4 extra credit points if you answer it by Sunday evening!

Due:

Sketchup: Draw a House in Google Classroom

Sketchup: Draw a House

LT: I can create a rough 3D shape in SketchUp
SC: I can demonstrate this by drawing a house-like shape that consists of at least one box and one triangular cylinder.

My goal is not to frustrate you, but get you used to drawing in SketchUp and become more familiar with the tool and how it works! I'll be just as happy with a box and a 3D triangle on top as I will with a complex model. The main point of this exercise is for you to become more comfortable and familiar with using the SketchUp tool.

Make sure to save your project in Google Drive so that you can turn in your work!

Due:

Learning SketchUp Free in Google Classroom

Learning SketchUp Free

Sketchup is a very complex 3D modeling tool. We are going to spend much of Week 2 going over the app and all of the tools that are available in it. By the end of the week, we should be able to draw 1 or 2 simple models and have a greater understanding of SketchUp.

Learning Target: I can use SketchUp to create simple models.

Success Critera: I am successful when I can successfully create the geometry to display a simple model in SketchUp.

Due:

SketchUp - Tool Caddy in Google Classroom

SketchUp - Tool Caddy

LT: I can visualize and create a 3D object in SketchUp
SC: I am successful when I can create a 3D model of a tool caddy (or toolbox)

Use the included powerpoint, follow along in class on Tuesday, or watch the video to complete this project. Please attach the file and turn in your work to this assignment.

Due:

Edpuzzle | Major Depression in Google Classroom

Edpuzzle | Major Depression

If you take the time to go through this video and answer the questions, I will give you 8 extra credit points (this is worth 1 assignment)!

My Chromebook Checklist

I'm so Excited to get to meet all of you tomorrow!

This is a quick checklist for you to go through. It will help refresh your memory and dust out those cobwebs if you need any help getting back into the groove of the Google Suite.

Open up the Google Sheet, go through the list, and check each item off if you know how to do the task. If not, watch the video, then check it off. After all of your items are complete, make sure you click TURN-IN!
